Roman Missal, Third Edition

Did you know that in late 2011, there will be changes to the words and celebration of the Mass?

Vatican officials are currently in the process of the final editing of the new Roman Missal, Third Edition. This book (sometimes referred to as the Sacramentary) provides the prayers and instructions for the celebration of the Roman Catholic Mass. The revision process has been underway since 2000, and the new Missal is expected to be implemented in late 2011.

From the USCCB website:
"Among other things, the revised edition of the Missale Romanum contains prayers for the observances of recently canonized saints, additional prefaces for the Eucharistic Prayers, additional Votive Masses and Masses and Prayers for Various Needs and Intentions, and some updated and revised rubrics (instructions) for the celebration of the Mass. The English translation of the Roman Missal will also include updated translations of existing prayers, including some of the well–known responses and acclamations of the people."

You can see sample texts and links to parish resources at the USCCB website.

While the publishers of the new text have not yet been named, click here and Reilly's will send you updates on the Missal, reference guides, and support materials for parish training as they become available.
